Beyond the Standard Rating

Special Monthly Compensation provides additional payments beyond the standard disability compensation rates. Veterans with severe disabilities, loss of limbs, loss of use, or who require the aid of another person may qualify for significantly higher monthly payments.

Common SMC Categories

SMC-K is awarded for loss of use of specific body parts. SMC-S (Housebound) applies when you have one condition rated 100% and additional conditions totaling 60% or more. SMC-L and above provide Aid & Attendance benefits for those who need help with daily activities.
