Is VA Really Run By Mar-a-Lago Trump Cronies?
ProPublica published its piece about the Mar-a-Lago trio, including Marvel Comics Ike Perlmutter, who are believed to be the shadow leaders running the agency.
Once word got out there, my inbox got a flood of emails from readers concerned about the news, which certainly appears true. Now, a host of major news publications are running the story.
As to my question in the titled, I think it is clear that answer is “Yes,” at least for certain decisions.
Based on the emails gleaned through FOIA, it sounds like Perlmutter and his friends are calling the shots. While the trio claim to be offering informal advice, documents and interviews of former VA officials give a different impression.
But hundreds of documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act and interviews with former administration officials tell a different story — of a previously unknown triumvirate that hovered over public servants without any transparency, accountability or oversight. The Mar-a-Lago Crowd spoke with VA officials daily, the documents show, reviewing all manner of policy and personnel decisions. They prodded the VA to start new programs, and officials travelled to Mar-a-Lago at taxpayer expense to hear their views. “Everyone has to go down and kiss the ring,” a former administration official said.
On another occasion, ProPublica notes, Moskowitz “wanted Apple and the VA to develop an app for veterans to find nearby medical services. Who did he bring in to advise them on the project? His son, Aaron, who had built a similar app. The proposal made Apple and VA officials uncomfortable, according to two people familiar with the matter, but Moskowitz’s clout kept it alive for months. The VA finally killed the project because Moskowitz was the only one who supported it.”
Moskowitz has also worked to stall a $10 billion contract for the VA to buy new record-keeping software from a firm called Cerner “because he used a different Cerner product and didn’t like it.”
Now what? Is this abnormal? Can it be stopped?
Maybe I have been covering VA news for too many years, because my first reaction to this information was merely a yawn.
Cronyism is the name of the game within VA. And, I can promise you the Mar-a-Lago rings were not the only things being kissed to get approval inside that agency over the past decade.

Many stakeholders hold sway over agency decisionmaking who are unelected. Corruption and kickbacks never cease, whether on a small level or significant through outsourcing of processes or systems.
The Cerner deal, referenced in the ProPublica piece, is just one of many examples of outsourcing where lobbyists no doubt played a significant role. How about the $20 billion IT revamp approved just a few years earlier? Or what about the $6.8 billion outsourcing of disability exams to QTC Medical in 2016? What about the Aurora VA hospital debacle at $1.8 billion – a cool billion over budget?

These were all deals where the genesis of the deal started under the previous administration. Nothing is new when it comes to outsourcing services to veterans previously performed by the agency that is now just a shell of what it used to do.
A lot of folks are worried that some Mar-a-Lago shadow group will somehow make the agency worse off than it was.
I don’t mean to make light of the new corruption allegations. If true, the Mar-a-Lago corruption should get sorted out, but, I am not clear things can get much worse than where we have been as a veteran population getting services from the most corrupt agency in the federal government for decades.
When asked about it today, one former VA administrator said, “We are no closer to fixing Veteran’s healthcare than we were in 2014.”
I guess the takeaway is to try not to lose too much sleep with this news and speculation since things cannot get much worse for veterans than the corrupt snubbing we received at the hands of VA, its IG, and the FBI, when that trio whitewashed the massive fraud and corruption that resulted in the deaths of many vets circa 2014.
To be continued… I am sure this election cycle will see a host of stories coming out that Democrats will run on – – and since Democrats stand to gain the most, I can assure you this story will get coverage for months in the MSM.
President Trump, VA is your problem now, and tossing its problems to your cronies to work on is not the best way to handle this (psst, and it may not be legal).
You better fix it, or you will go down looking like a fool who was bamboozled by bureaucrats who outsmarted you.

Feds Continue Classified Experiments on Humans
Programs dubbed ‘Moose Drool’ and ‘Hidden Valley’

“The U.S. government continues to perform highly secretive experiments on human subjects, according to partial information about these continuing experiments released under a Freedom of Information Act request.
At least 12 programs run by the Department of Energy are using human beings as part of the experiments, which operate under unusual names such as “Moose Drool,” “Little Workers,” and “Hidden Valley,” among others.
An unclassified list of these experiments was provided to the Federation of American Scientists under a FOIA request and included in the organization’s latest newsletter.
Little information about the nature of these experiments was provided by the government, which lists the total number of participants in the programs at around 300.”

“The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in connection to a murder at a residence on Old Powderhouse Road in Aiken.
Kellie Lynn Collins, 30, surrendered to authorities in McDuffie County on Tuesday and was charged with murder and grand larceny. The victim was identified as Curt Cain, 41, and found at his residence on the 3000 block of Old Powderhouse Road on Tuesday after his employer requested a well-being check.
An autopsy revealed that Cain had been shot and died due to loss of blood, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton. Cain is believed to have died on Saturday.
Cain’s vehicle, a blue Subaru Legacy, and his wife were missing, but law enforcement was able to locate her out of the state, according to Carlton.
Collins was a Democratic candidate for the 10th Congressional District seat in 2018, but withdrew from the race for personal reasons and wasn’t on the ballot. According to a file from the Federal Election Commission, Cain was Collins’ treasurer.”

US Veterans Get Wheelchair Upgrade With Revolutionary Israeli ‘Wheel Tech’

“US army veterans are getting their wheels in motion – literally – thanks to an Israeli-based startup supplying them with a revolutionary, new shock-absorbing wheel that will give them a more comfortable, secure ride.
The Department of Veteran Affairs signed a deal in July to purchase wheels for wheelchairs from Tel Aviv startup SoftWheel. The groundbreaking firm, which has developed a unique suspension technology is set to provide the organization with wheels for 2,000 wheelchairs over the course of three years. The Department Of Veteran Affairs will pay $4.5 million for the buy.”
SoftWheel Chief Revenue Officer Hanit Marinov, who tells NoCamels that the agreement was made through Ki Mobility, a wheelchair manufacturer partnering with the US Department of Veteran Affairs to produce wheelchairs, confirmed that it’s the largest deal ever for the wheel tech startup and appreciates that it “focuses on the benefits to veterans and the access it gives them in their daily lives.”
“The best thing to say about this deal is that we’re proud to be a supplier to the VA through Ki Mobility,” she says, “The American VA [deal] is dramatic for us because of the quantity we’ll be providing [for veterans.] We’re very proud to be a part of this.”
According to Marinov, any wheelchair-bound veteran in the United States is eligible to request a set of wheels fully funded by the VA. One of the goals of the deal, she says, is to allow access to as many veterans as possible.
The company says it is important that the wheels be “compatible with any wheelchair frame,” which is true in the case of the Acrobat, which the company calls the world’s most advanced wheel system helping “riders achieve the ultimate combination of comfort and performance, incredible improvements in energy-efficiency and significant impact reduction on the spine and back.”

I really have to point out that there are 4 wheels on each wheel chair the two big ones and the two small ones and it appears that they only sell the big ones and the wheel Chairs are not self-propelled. So, with the $4.5 Million only equipping 2000 Wheel Chairs that works out to be about $2250 per chair.
Of course, you can buy a great self-propelled wheel chair for much less than the price the VA will be paying to retrofit wheel chairs with the wheels shipped from Israel.

Ex-psychiatric nurse charged with defrauding insurance companies

“A former psychiatric nurse who treated veterans in Maricopa County without a nursing license was indicted by a state grand jury Monday for multiple felony charges, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office said.”
“Bell operated under multiple aliases, used stolen identities of other nurses and former patients, while billing insurance companies for several services that were not provided between January 2017 and February 2018, according to an indictment charging her in Maricopa County Superior Court.
Conner was not able to specify whether Bell committed these crimes while working for a medical facility or through a private business.”
“Additionally, Bell is accused of treating three U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs patients without a license and forging several identification documents, medical certifications and other credentials, Conner said.
The Nursing Board has questioned Bell’s conduct in the past, after a domestic-violence incident and possible mental health issues in 2013, state records say. It led to the license revocation in 2016.
At the time, Bell was licensed under the name Sukanlaya Hughes, and she admitted to the Nursing Board that she was charged with assault, disorderly conduct and criminal damage during a dispute with her former husband, the report says.
The board launched an investigation and suspended her nursing licenses in November 2015, which led her to submit a flurry of nursing applications containing falsified information to several other states, then again in Arizona, officials said.
“After the summary suspension, she reapplied to the same board, our board, under a different name,” Mamaluy said.
At one point, Bell had nursing licenses issued to her in Arizona, Oregon, Hawaii, Washington and Nevada, officials said.”

I gave up on Disney a while back after hearing about how Minnie had filed on Mickey over that Goofy bull shit. Then Mickey hasn’t been paying any of his support payments for all those Mouseketeers. Guess that is where the VA got the idea to dodge Veterans Choice payments to providers called the Goofy maneuver.
Now we have Marvel giving pointers to the VA and of course this year line up of the cast of characters on some of their shows coming out of the closet. Like who knew that the big secret behind Supergirl is her Transgender issue. Kind of ruins the idea of Supergirl in tights for me.

The VA turtle against the Marvel hare?
Maybe there’s no connection… but, we’ve been enlightened to think first “follow the money” on ALL things VA.
The last couple of years has provided a new Marvel’s something or another every month or so while SC veterans wait sometimes years through VHA for care for their conditions or a diagnosis, others wait way more years for their BVA case resolution, and there is also “limited space” for burials.
Some On, Some Off Topic – And another tactic the VA uses, is to use the Veteran’s home dynamics and operational functions (sounds Corporate doesn’t it), to take into consideration of the Veteran’s residence or living arrangements. In other words, where the Vet is struggling, and how much it hurts (a lot of power there).
The complexity comes when a Veteran (yes like me), files a complaint with the WH’s Veteran Complaint or Hotline, or let me talk to someone that has POTEE’s ear. And when the Veteran let’s the VA PCP know of this disagreement, dispute, violations of the VA’s own Policies, that in continuance, and by this Veteran complaining, has made the VA to go into a mode of inconsistency of medical protocols to treat, serve, and to protect this Veteran.
In conclusion, this Veteran believes to be true, that the VA has openly and intentionally violated ports of their many Policy’s for the better treatment of Veterans. But yet, it’s that Tort Law in the way, causing there to not only be a shortage of Attorneys, but VA cases are expensive, plus there’s not many Attorneys that practice in the legal fields related to the VA.
So, for the VA to change we need to realize that the VA is multi-faceted, interconnected by closed door agreements and personal honor systems that aren’t of VA’s Policy’s. Even though, there’s much sort of under the table things happening at the Medical Center level too. Each VAMC Director is like a little VA Secretary. Each Director doesn’t follow the same VA code when working within their own facility in which they are responsible for operating and managing.
So what VA does is to tie one up with multiple health issues, leading into complaints, misunderstandings, and disagreements, all this energy is a negative to the Veteran. And we’re not only talking about the actual time spent with this. I’m talking about the emotional drain, and how it effects other members, and their service animals of the Veteran’s. The VA know very well that if they can cause pressure in a Veterans household, kindly and gently referred to as nad squeezing, which the VA somehow has an influence in making it come into realism; VA causes shit to happen.
Yes, the VA is what I refer to as a JanusManyTimesOver (JMTO). Janus meaning many faces, and such is the VA. So shit, do you think I believe that Trumps family should be all in our Gov’t? Really don’t give two shits. Just as long as our military Veterans are properly taken care of, and that the VA TRULY Creates an Open-Door Policy, where employees and Veterans can submit ideas, complements, complaints, suggestions, and all in a welcoming spirit.
Shootz, when I bring something up new, there’s a scramble. Like I always ask for and like is, “over-easy please.”
FUCK YOU EVERYONE RELATED TO VA WHO DOES NOT HAVE THE BALLS TO STAND UP BE COUNTED AS TO WHERE ALL THE PROBLEM AREAS IN THE VA THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.
And hey, it’s time that we call these people out. Whether it’s a diplomatic style or in their face. I say this because of this, “Life is first above all things.” So as the VA leadership dicks around, many Veterans are getting the shaft big time.
