Obama Blows Off Disabled Veterans Memorial Ceremony
President Obama has apparently blown off attending the opening ceremony for yet another disabled veterans memorial. The American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial (AVDLM) is the victim of his current callous approach to this nation’s heroes.
The dedication ceremony is set for October 5, 2014, and promises to be yet another opportunity for President Obama to thumb his nose at American veterans and the tenants important to most American values.
Sources indicate this declination makes President Obama the first president to decline such a formal opening. He has further declined to attend numerous other opportunities to present any kind of allegiance to veteran in the same way as previous presidents.
According to the Breitbart article on the matter:
Organizers of the event were caught off guard when informed by the White House of the president’s decision this week and are hoping to receive an explanation from the White House as to why Obama will not be attending the ceremony, according to the source, who is involved with the memorial and was informed of the decision this week.
U.S. presidents have historically been on hand during dedication ceremonies for major memorials in D.C., including the Air Force memorial, the World War II memorial, the Vietnam War memorial, the Korean War memorial, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, which Obama attended and spoke at.
The White House declined to comment when asked by the Washington Free Beacon to confirm if Obama would be unavailable to attend the ceremony.
“It’s disappointing that the president is unable to celebrate the dedication of this historic memorial with the heroes that it honors—our nation’s disabled veterans,” said the source.

Well said. President Obama was elected twice in accordance with our nation’s election rules. Therefore, he represents all the people of this nation. He is our Commander in Chief. He deserves our respect. Too many people, for whatever reason, have chosen to reject him and all those who voted for him. To me, that represents a lack of patriotism and loyalty. If there is more that can be done to serve our nation’s veterans, then we have a duty to share that information with our elected representatives and senators in Congress and to contact the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

i’ve been working as a veterans advocate since 2010, and he has turned his head to so many issues, issues he promised the veteran’s groups to solve before the 2012 elections. Homelessness is higher than ever, he has done nothing, as a matter of fact, the DOJ and the VA have appealed a win that the vet groups had in West LA. This was all over the news for a week, then the cover-up started. The military has seen NO real pay raise, and the DOD actually proposed a PAY CUT the year before last, and are proposing more benefits cuts and pay reductions for the upcoming year. The number of troops being sent back into Iraq, to “train” the fighters, is so low that he is basically signing a death warrant on them. He has DEMANDED the sole approval for EVERY mission our troops are taking on in Iraq, but he has no knowledge how to conduct the attacks effectively. Veterans suicides are at a level that exceeds all historical records, with an average of 22 per month, what has he done to stop it? His people have actually pushed and seen that a doctor, who specializes in PTSD, and veteran suicide, was FIRED because she was prescribing medical marijuana, and it was working to level the vets out, and was helping control their anxiety. I could go on and on, but if you can prove your claims are correct, please provide the data. As far as the info I have, I will be testifying before the Sec. of the VA and the Congressional Veterans Affairs Committee later this month.
He and his administration may appear like they care, but under the smoke screen the opposite is going on.
Firstly, you are citing a very partisan website. Second, there are many Memorials across the country which the POTUS has been invited to, including the one I founded five years ago, to which he declined to visit. My invitation to him, was at the Nixon Presidential Library. I did not expect him to be able to attend. Presidents are invited to many many events, and most do not attend. Please stop making such inflammatory statements without really laying out ALL the facts. This President has done more for Vets than the last one ( who was basically AWOL during his time in the service I might add). I have worked at one of the largest VA’s in the country during the last Admin, and trust me if you were pro active in getting vets their benefits, you were not considered a team player by the Bush Admin. My boss, the Director, who believed in vets having every cent they deserved, was asked to retire early, due to his proactive beliefs. When Obama was elected he asked him to come on board to help the VA get reeducated to get vets their benefits. The old guard is still very much entrenched, but changes are being made. I have had a very difficult time accessing medical benes, but I keep fighting for them, as we must all do. We must try and work together instead of being so divisive.

Are you serious??? This president has not visited any of the memorials stateside or overseas. Bush made it a priority to visit them whenever he was overseas. The one being spoken about is one that is just opening. It is a custom for the president to be there whenever a new veteran’s memorial opens, but this president does not like or trust veterans and that is why his cronies have labeled us as terrorists.

You are incorrect on all fronts. It is NOT customary for any POTUS to attend any and all memorials…if that were the case all he would be doing is going to memorials. He or she is invited to attend National Memorials, and unless there is some pressing event taking place, (like a war or beheading,) etc, the POTUS will go or send the VP. You really need to check your facts. Actually the President addressed a audience ON D-day to commemorate the 65th and the opening of the new visitor center at the US Military Center in Normandy. AND he is the only president to visit Normandy twice when he went back this past June. Bush made no public events associated with D-day from 2002-2008, except in 2004. (I can get you his schedule if you want.)
As for presidents who never visited Arlington on Memorial here’s the list: Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, George HW Bush, Nixon. It did not become a true tradition until Bill Clinton, who went every year he was in office. The only year Obama did not go is 2010 when he went to a memorial dedicated to the FALLEN at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Illinois. VP Biden went to Arlington in his place. He has met with families of the fallen privately (out of the press)- he has met the fallen heroes at Dover in the middle of the night .
This past Memorial day he made a special unscheduled trip to Afghanistan to spend time with the troops…bush made a trip to declare Mission Accomplished.

Sheri, when a president salutes with a coffee or does not take the time to learn the pronunciation of military words, or shuts down the gov’t and shuts down memorial monuments that effect the Veterans. You say the president does not have time to recognize all of the military events, that is true. What he can do is pick certain events that matter to our country. He can think of it as a golf course. The memorial in question affects millions of disabled veterans, and working as a veteran’s advocate, I consider his failure to attend an insult, unless he was on the golf course, as golf and attending fundraisers seems to be a priority over running the Nation.

I know he has the title of President but to me he is Mr. Obama. He is not an actual President. He is Mr. Obama the golf pro/banquet attendee/vacationer/ETC… but not President. A President know what is going on and this one clearly does not. Is there bigger things going on in this world now that need his attention (even though they may not be getting it), yes. Should he be at the ceremony to honor us disabled vets, yes. It is his duty to take care of the big things as well as the small things. We, to him are the small things and we know that we do not matter to him; however, he should be there as President even if he does not want to be there as Mr. Obama. The President should attend things like this. I will no longer call him President because his not and never has really been a President.

Being a vet myself, I really do not see the importance of the attendance of the President at these Memorial Dedications. Are we not at odds with every Middle Eastern nation at the present time ? I would prefer that he attend those meetings.

O is no example of what a real president does to thank the ones who gave more than most. VRAP was a consolation prize offered to those scammed out of VEAP. We were promised eventual enrollment to MGIB in the 1970’s and 1980’s, to this date we still haven’t received a GI BIll.

I wonder if all these accusations against the President were written before anyone knew that the multinational war against ISIL would be underway. To think that appearing at this dedication is the most important thing a President has to do seems to me to involve some very limited thinking. Of course, for some, any opportunity to bash the President must be fully exploited.
There are very serious things happening in our world today, like 4 men being killed unnecessarily in the Bengazhi massacre. Seems this president wouldn’t be bothered because of a fund raiser the following day. It is really hard to get this imposter off the Golf course these days.

If anyone has evidence that the President has committed treason, they should come forward with such evidence. It is hard to imagine that the CIA and the DOD would cooperate in such behavior. Lholman, if you believe and trust in our government then that is your first mistake. They will and have cheated to do what ever they need to do and why? because they can. If they need one to say we never knew of this then no problem. Our CIA and DOD would cooperate on anything they need to do. End of story.

You had Bush and Romney and the rest of the Chickenhawk warmongerer’s avoiding military service during time of war and these people have been revered and admired so much (not by me), while those of us who have answered the call and gone ahead and served are being dismissed as insignificant by an apathetic public. This current VA scandal is an example of just how insignificant we are to people. This scandal is being reported now as much worse than it originally was, and still the public doesn’t care!
Nothing surprises me about Obama anymore, except if he happens to do something that you would EXPECT a President to do! (Anyone remember the song by CCR “I Ain’t No Fortunate One?” It would be appropriate at this time!)
This doesn’t at all surprise me that he’s not going to this opening ceremony for disabled veterans! Nobody much cares about disabled veterans or any other veterans in this country. At least that’s what I’ve been noticing for the past 45 years. Heck, 45 years ago I had people tell me it was un-American for anyone to join the military and that anyone who allowed himself to be shipped off to Viet-Nam was dumb and stupid. This is how the American public views those of us who have served in the military. So, it doesn’t surprise me that the current Commander-in-Chief thinks the same way about us!
But didn’t Bush and Romney blow off Vietnam? It’s all there, rich daddies or religion that keeps you safe in France each year your number comes up, gee, we still need him here. ( puking at the moment!) Bush, flyboy my ass, flying cocaine perhaps? Didn’t he major in cheerleading anyways? Wow, see? Go to an Ivy League School, be a cheerleader, then you too can get out of serving your country, daddy arranged it all for you! ( maybe daddy knew of Agent Orange too) OBAMA YOUR A DISGRACE TO THIS COUNTRY, NOW CAN I GET A REFUND PLEASE? Time to do what was added to that Constitution girls and boys, collapse and start over!
Maybe some day it will be the law that you have to be a veteran, and a combat vet or hazardous duty vet, to be eligible to be President. The same requirement should be established right now for Congress. Congress won’t pass such a law but society can insist on it.
Bush served in the guard, but back then the guard was a joke, weekend warriors. It’s not like that now and nearly half of the ones who served in the gulf were in the guard. I’ve quit calling them weekend warriors and I think everyone else should.
