CIR Wrongful Death Map

Talk about putting things into perspective. The new map on VA wrongful deaths from The Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR) is a real eye opener.

Since 2001, almost 1,000 families have lost their loved ones as a result of VA malpractice. Payouts have eclipsed $200 million.

When asked by CIR reporter Aaron Glantz about the deaths, VA spokesperson Victoria Dillion was quick to diminish the severity of the problem:

In a written response to questions, agency spokeswoman Victoria Dillon said that while “any adverse incident for a veteran within our care is one too many,” the wrongful deaths identified by CIR represented a small fraction of the more than 6 million veterans who seek care from the agency every year.

The agency, Dillon said, is “committed to continuous improvement.” When a death occurs, “we conduct a thorough review to understand what happened, prevent similar incidents in the future, and share lessons learned across the system,” she said.

Sadly, when considered in light of the recent deaths in Georgia and Pennsylvania, VA seems to be moving in the wrong direction regarding any improvements.

  1. The VA’s response is a good example of what is meant when a statistician talks about the use of statistics. Namely, “There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.” It goes without saying that as usual the VA is telling another glaring lie in how they try to portray this pandemic of wrongful deaths. The real issue is the fact that you need to ask yourself, what is in it for the VA if they deliberately cause the death of veterans and then just attribute it to normal medical statistics. If it was the exact opposite, and the VA had 1,000 miraculous surgeries and procedures instead of 1,000 untimely medical deaths, they would be talking about how great their doctors are. Ultimately, the VA has a strong, clear financial motive in killing off, as in murdering, as many veterans as possible. The VA is a gigantic, sick institution that is ran by heartless men and women who are only concerned about their pay and bonuses they receive in a sociopathic system that destroys the lives of veterans on a daily basis. The VA can only be fixed to the point that it actually serves veterans instead of using and abusing them as a justification for countless thousands of staff and bureaucrats to collect paychecks and bonuses, by doing one thing. Namely, the VA has got to be shut down, permanently, by having veterans go to private hospitals and doctors, and use private agencies to distribute earned benefits and services, who only get paid when the veteran gets their earned service, or their earned benefit. That will happen, and it is just a matter of time until it does. A surgeon in northern California, at a hospital in Redding, a few years ago was caught doing dozens of unnecessary heart surgeries on patients who did not need surgery at all. It was a giant scam, and you can bet many people at the hospital knew about it for a long time before the surgeon was finally investigated, arrested, charged with several felonies and sent to prison. The same thing needs to happen at the VA, and it will. It is in fact already under way, and the VA staff who do this kind of thing and other incompetent care are going to answer for it, sooner than they think.

  2. DO THESE PEOPLE REALIZE THAT WE FOUGHT FOR THEIR FREEDOM ? WE HAVE GIVEN UP OUR CHANCE AT “SANITY/PEACE” FOR THEM. I PRAY FOR ALL WHO ARE IN ON THIS “CONSPIRACY”, BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT IS HAPPENING. WE DO NOT NEED ANY MORE STATS, STUDIES, MEDICATIONS ETC, WE NEED TO BE “HONORED/RESTORED” FOR OUR SERVICE.
