One disabled veteran confronted an MSNBC news crew after multiple requests that the crew stop blocking handicapped parking outside a polling place in Houston.

“They should know better,” said the veteran after confronting the crew. James Berrie, a disabled veteran, needed the spot to unload his ramp and power chair so he could vote. Berrie and his wife had to park in a non-handicapped area as a result. The veteran suffers from multiple sclerosis and requires handicapped parking.

Berrie confronted the crew and snapped photos after the news crew refused to move. The news team reportedly agreed to move after confronted but failed to do so after fifteen minutes. He said the news crew blocked off two handicapped parking spots with its equipment to shoot footage with correspondent Mariana Atencio.

“(The MSNBC crew) kept coming back like we’ll move in two minutes,” he said. “We’ll move in like three minutes. We’re going live. We’ve got a shot. We’re going live in like three minutes. We gotta do this and we’re just like, ‘No. You have to move. It’s not right. You know it’s not right.’”

Later, Atencio apologized about the incident on Twitter.

“We made the wrong call (Tuesday) by using a disabled parking spot for our live shot in (Texas),” she wrote. “There’s no excuse. I apologize to the two people who were on their way to vote as it’s one of the most important parts of our democracy. We’d never want to jeopardize anyone’s ability to do so.”

The veteran posted the photo and comment about the MSNBC issue on Facebook.

James Berrie On MSNBC

I took this excerpt from Berrie’s Facebook and posted it below in italics:

Different kind of voter suppression.

EDIT: Thank you all for your support. This has gotten bigger than I thought, but that is a good thing. People are talking about this, having the conversation. Please keep going. If you see something, say something.

Went to vote, and found this waiting for us. The only van accessible spot and they’re filming in it. We asked them to move, pointed out how it was wrong, then went to vote, because it takes time to load up. But came out and still there. Not even packing up, still getting ready for their shot. Then Sarah made a big scene and did not back down. They claimed they had a live shot, so Sarah walked into the shot. They cut the feed and got pissed. Fortunately other people joined in, plus firefighters who where there for Prop B. We finally left once their van was loaded. But there were plenty of witnesses and pictures/video taken by others.

This is suppression. If I couldn’t park I couldn’t vote. Their van had no handicap placards. And this happens all the time. Handicap spots are not loading zones for gear and equipment. Figure something else out. Especially at a public event where people are going to need the spots. This is not ok, and the station needs to be made aware. All of them.

EDIT: This is a very big election this year. News will be out in force, now and until the general. The media needs to be aware. Call them out if you see this.

Get Voting

Be sure you get out there and vote. Given the hysteria on both sides of the political aisle, it will be interesting to see how actual voter turnout is when compared to the polls.

In 2016, the major media outlets were obviously dead wrong. And they should be embarrassed for their errors. This year, polls are calling for a blue wave. Like 2016, though, it will be interesting to see how accurate they are this time.

Will we see a flip toward Democrats similar to that of 2010? Or, are we seeing more bluster from pollsters trying to manipulate voters? Will the use of polls as a form of propaganda to manipulate voters finally be exposed?

  1. Mariana Atencio? Ha. Studied at “Columbia U.? A “Humanist,” “truth seeker.” A mouth piece for TEDX, thinks she is special along with thinking she has rule over Americans, and not her kind of “humanist” we are supposed to bow to. Then offers an apology way too late like ‘they’ usually do claiming “to use our voice to make the world a better place.” Yeah right. Then like I mentioned before one of those who refuse to use the word “Republic.” But we are to join the ‘group-think’ college kiddies and others.

Good on Mr. Berrie for exposing the issues and the kind of people who abuse things without no regard for others. Her apology is lame and should be fired but won’t be. Not from the the mighty MSM called MSNBC of propaganda. The issue is rampant especially in college towns but those complaining or whining are the enemy as seen by some posts on his FB. Which the goofy commenting … “Meanwhile, the right wing turned this into an assault on veterans’ voting rights … the real crime here is the right wing’s exploitation of veterans. Period.” Taking disabled parking spots by Mariana and her kind flips the issue and that too goes political and weaponized. Not about some truth, facts, or loss of humanity, or manners today. Oh oh here comes the racist and misogynist labeling from the antagonist and activist claiming to be ‘beyond reproach.’

Voted. Don’t care about or believe in polls or stats. Trouble with e-votes began the first day tipping things towards Dems. Oh they got that fixed! Right! Like we are supposed to trust them anyway or try to stop all the illegals and dead from voting. As those like Soros or Bloomberg have dumped billions into this voting season to ruin the country. That too can be Googled like the organ transplant black market stories if not scrubbed already.

Have a great day out in civil war 2 day.

  2. A few years ago, I got into an argument with a sociology teacher because she pretty much said that the military requiring males to shave their heads had to do with indoctrination into some racist cult.

I tried to explain how when I was in airborne school that having hair almost resulted in me getting my scalp ripped off and how hair in the military interferes with hygene (i.e. lice), ability to properly dawn masks and/or headgear….

But she opted to make fun of what I was saying (because she was being confronted by “facts” and the students would probably become wise to her unsupported opinions about things) probably because she was more adamant about creating hatred our military, the patriarchy, bla bla…

Sad how certain people have so much venom for our military – when our military take its marching orders politicians.

  3. This is a continuous problem everywhere now days, the state of Texas needs to impose higher fines and get the vehicle towed at the owners expense and have the police cite violators on the spot, the police should have been called and have the crew given citations, no exceptions, this type of behavior by anyone is nothing but bs

    • Agree 100%, Juan. Buena solución. This problem is really getting out of hand here in Texas. A mandatory $750 fine and tow might begin to get peoples attention. After the first few whiners made the news about the ‘unfairness’ of it all, the word would get around Rápidamente.

  4. Mr. Berrie should have called the police and had them ticketed. The MSNBC crew knew better but chose to behave badly. They first denied this disabled veteran the handicapped parking spot he required, then delayed him from voting with their ‘runaround’ tactics.

How much time did they add to the length of Mr. Berrie’s already difficult day?

Their apology is worthless, and most probably not very sincere.

  5. The polls were wrong in 2016. The mainstream media is biased today, just as they were in 2016. That MSNBC crew, every last one of them should be fined whatever the max fine is. To bad he didn’t have a Texas brush bar on that van, he could have pushed their equipment to the curb and regained his rightful spot.

  6. So, I guess the idea of throttling back on “off-topic” political comments is readily circumvented when the topic is about politics.

Here’s your chance boys! Flame on!

In all balanced fairness. Would this have gone noticed had it been Fox teevee crew?

Make sure you vote boys and girls. Whichever mind massaged message you chose to believe, whichever owned-bitches party you prefer, rest assured, veterans and the American taxpayers will win nothing. Zip.

    • WG, No ‘flames’ needed. Faux news wasn’t the ones caught in action. I doubt Mr. Berrie had politics much on mind when his attentions had go to a parking spot and deal with the trophy idiot. It was that hag that represented MSNBC to show reality about her and the networks humanity then try to apologize for her caught lacking of ethics and true nature. In this case MSNBC and staff did this. If it had been a Faux news hag I would feel the same way. MSM is the MSM and no changing any of their crap, intrusions, or facade. Isn’t that why they are referred to as a ‘media circus?’ Now find a report about Faux News or others doing this the reply and attitude of mine would be the same. Oh, and agreed nothing much will change in the true deep state nor the shadow governing. Bankers included.

  7. Kudos to Berrie for putting the word out!
I agree they should have called the Police. Believe me (Former Policeman from Houston/Disabled Vet), “we” would have LOVED to give them a ticket for that! For many officers this is a pet peeve of their’s. DON’T block or park in a handicapped spot when you are NOT authorized to do so! We don’t care who you are or if you were only going to be there for a “Few Minutes”. You are blocking access to someone who needs it and we are here to stick up for those folks who need our help, period!
In this Class C Misdemeanor Cases the officer has discretion to do 1 of 4 things:
    1. Give a Verbal Warning, instruct them to move and give them a reasonable amount of time to do so.
    2. Give a Written Warning, instruct them to move and give them ” “…
    3. Issue them a Citation and instruct them to move, etc.
    4. OR, Remove them and take them to Jail and impound all of their equipment and/or vehicle.
The maximum fine for most class C’s is a $500 and it’s up to the Judge…
Thank you to Berrie for making us aware of this! Sorry you had this difficulty today. I wished that I was there!
And to answer “Windguy”, a FOX TV Crew has the common sense not to block a HC space…at least I hope they do!

  8. Happens all the time, with people that will read this and say awful. They park saying just a couple minutes. I live in a hi rise downtown Denver, when asked for a handicapped space they sold them and told me that this building isn’t really suited for disabled people and should look elsewhere. Had to fight but gave me one. I go out and a lady parked in my spot near the elevators for 3 hours, she came out and when I said something, she became irate telling me she has a child and how do I expect her to bring her groceries inside and have a child. Finally move and now tow. The other spaces they took the signs down and put up reserved for manger or something. Every day it’s a problem, either parking, telling me to get my service dog our or the biggest headache the VA trying to make my life a horror movie

  9. Really? Wahhhhhh you want some cheese with that? Keep veterans out of politics, we are one regardless of our beliefs, and values.

    Dear Benjamin Krause,

Fake News making real news—–What would President Trump say to that?

    Sincerely,
