Veterans Affairs Gives Female Veterans More Meds Causing Birth Defects

Women veterans

Benjamin KrauseAP: Women veterans health care services are still in poor shape for the 390,000 female vets, including higher instances of prescribing meds causing birth defects.

Like many things at VA lately, health care quality and services for women is well behind the private sector. Rather than seeking to reinvent the wheel, perhaps VA would be better served to admit its colossal failure and provide fee services to all women veterans. Instead, women vets are largely stuck holding their breath while VA figures out its next failure.

The VA chief of women’s health care, Dr. Patricia Hayes, told Associate Press (AP), “Are their problems? Yes. The good news for our health care system is that as the number of women increases dramatically, we are going to continue to be able to adjust to these circumstances quickly.”

Women have been serving in the military for over 70 years. This response time is one of the most a pitiful failures of American policy I have ever seen.

In a review of internal documents AP found:

  • 1 in 4 VA hospitals have no gynecologist on staff
  • 140 of 920 VA clinics lack a designated women’s health provider
  • VA ignores policy by not providing mammogram results in a timely fashion
  • More women were wait listed than men
  • VA prescribes more drugs causing birth defects than the private sector

Is it time for VA to put a stake in it and outsource care for female veterans immediately?

  1. HOW DID ALL THIS “RESPONSIBILITY” ALL OF A SUDDEN FALL TO THE PRESIDENT ? THE VA HAS BEEN IN TROUBLE SINCE BEFORE PRESIDENT OBAMA WAS EVEN BORN.
REPUBLICAN/DEMOCRAT, THE GOVT IS “BROKEN” WE NEED TO DROP THE “THIS SIDE OR THAT SIDE” AND BE UNITED, AS OUR NAME IMPLIES.

    1. Well, considering that Obama is now the current word record holder for punishing financially poor women veterans who drive on gasoline fumes to their VA appointments, I would daresay that he is entirely responsible for their maltreatment.

Since Obama took office in 2008 to our upcoming Day of Independence, on July 4, women veterans have experienced 1,290 Days above $3-a-gallon gas.

You, as a male, might be able to afford these outrageous gas prices, but the women veterans discriminated against by Obama surely can’t.

  2. We would have lost WW1 and WW2 if it had not been for women filling many important jobs in the military and defense manufacturing industry, ranging from clerical to pilot of long-range bombers. The same is true today, maybe even more so, because there really are not enough men willing to take the chance in the military today, especially considering the crap you get from the VA afterwards. So, women certainly deserve excellent care and protection just as the men do. And, there are even jobs that men cannot do as well as women. A very simple, obvious example of that is counseling a female who has been traumatized in action or elsewhere. Women may be less impulsive in nuke silos and areas that may be negatively impacted by too much testosterone that we males are known to be influenced by.

  3. Really? The VA has never had services adequate for female VETERANS. I remember when I first got out of military service after 11 consecutive years operating around the world and becoming a civilian in mid 1992 I had certain PTSD issues related to deployments and adjustment issues. After, seeking out assistance at the local VA and group counseling there was a young female Veteran who needed counseling services. She participated in our group but unfortunately the group wasn’t geared for female Veterans and I could sense her discomfort thus she never returned after the second week. I remember this because I had felt bad that there weren’t more women Veterans in my local VA system even though I had served with women who were just as competent and professional in they’re duties. The entire system is totally screwed up but I have noticed that in the Boston VA HCS there are visible changes for services geared towards women Veterans and I believe they should fare better than their male counterparts as everything is new and updated as opposed to the old shitty services male Veterans have received since inception of the VA. Really every veterans medical id card should be a full insurance card for universal healthcare as the veteran deems necessary with no copay.

  4. Perfect example of Obama’s War on Women.

Like his progressive democrat predecessor from the early 1900s, the former misogynist President Woodrow Wilson, Obama has also found the American females to be an inconvenient gender.

It was only one hundred years ago that Wilson deliberately resisted attempts by patriotic women to win the right to vote.

With this same progressive hate towards women running in his blood, Obama has deliberately ignored the plight of female veterans.

Obama has deliberately raised gasoline prices so that it is prohibitively expensive for women veterans to drive to the VA.

Obama has deliberately distributed America’s wealth to his 1% Wall Street donors while leaving female veterans without jobs and without the means to earn more.

Under Obama, women veterans have become an unjust casualty in his brutal War on Women.

WOMEN VETERANS! YOU ARE NOT ALONE IN YOUR STRUGGLE AGAINST THE SEXIST POLICIES OF OBAMA! WE, MALE VETERANS, SUPPORT YOUR EFFORTS TO STOP OBAMA’S ABUSE OF WOMEN’S RIGHTS AT THE VA!
