Phone Scam Chillicothe VA

Veterans Targeted By Phone Scammers Before Holidays

Officials at Chillicothe VA Medical Center reported multiple VA police calls from veterans claiming phone scammers are calling them.

The Chillicothe VA Police Department, located at the medical center, reportedly received multiple calls from veterans on December 9, 2018. The veterans stated the callers posed as VA officials asking them to confirm their full social security numbers.

DO NOT PROVIDE the caller your social security number,” says the Chillicothe VA website.

“And how did they get a list of veterans’ information?” asked Bryce Phelps.

Another reader, Sharma Logan, responded, “Bryce Phelps good question, security at VA sucks.”

The website does not mention how the scammers secured a list of veterans to call. While past data breaches were the cause of phishing lists like this one, today’s social media database mega-companies like Facebook can provide lists like this using the right algorithms or scraping software.

This is not the first time a phone scam was reported by the facility. Last March, the Chillicothe VA posted on Facebook:

We have received a report of a phone scam recently attempted involving a Veteran and his family. The caller claimed to be from the “VHA Call Center” offering home improvement loans. This is a scam. Veterans should not give out any information.

Suicide… Or Death At Chillicothe VA

The facility was in the news recently following an IG investigation into the circumstances around a veteran falling out a hospital window.

Initially, the agency reported that a veteran committed suicide while institutionalized. A later investigation found that he accidentally fell out of a window that was unsecured. IG also concluded the agency failed to take adequate steps to notify the veteran’s adult who could have taken legal action against the agency.

  1. Reading y’all saying that the VA actually scares Veterans from receiving the medical treatment earned in service. True here. I’m seeing smaller communities, and their doctors are hooking up with the VA. Choice is causing these small time doctors to act out their loyalty to the VA.
I’m trying to use the private sector, and strangely enough, they seem to be talking like the VA. Harder than ever to find a Doctor here not feeding into the VA crap. I do believe that Veterans will have one more stand..

  2. ‘I’d love to see a huge economic collapse so all the spoiled, ungreatful, unaccomplished lazy stupid sheep of this country can sell all the expensive crap they buy and don’t appreciate in a desperate attempt to stay afloat and eat bread.”

Unfortunately, it is on the way soon – – – and the people who will suffer the most when it happens are the people who can least afford to weather the storm.

Biggest domestic problem we have in this country today is the ever-widening gap between those who have way too much (and do nothing for society) and those who do not have enough . . .

    Namaste.

  3. Oh yeah, this ARKANSAS VAMC “WHORSPITAL” is rated as a 4 star facility by … you guessed it–THE VA people wearing fancy veneers and cheap bustiers.

  4. I am so sick of hearing about the VAMC’s abuse on Veterans. Tonight on the news here in Arkansas they busted a doctor for giving the wrong diagnoses that caused the death of at least 4 Veterans in Fayetteville. The Doctor is known to be an alcoholic but still worked there. And , uh- thousands more Veterans have probably been affected by this. As usual , it’s under admin review– yeah right . You know what that means. Here’s the thing , having worked at a VAMC I know what the prime directive is: “Do not let the Veteran advance his claims”. Well , uh gee does that even possibly relate to a wrong diagnosis Jethro ? Oh, let me guess , they’re dead and you’re not, keep your mouth shut and take some more pills. Where the F*** is JCAHO with these goddamed clowns/ HUH? HUH?

  5. It’s too bad nothing has been posted yet about the marine colonel who went to the bay pines va medical center the other day and shot himself.

But you know, the American sheep are busy gorging themselves on rampant consumerism, greed and narcissm so nobody really cares. I’d love to see a huge economic collapse so all the spoiled, ungreatful, unaccomplished lazy stupid sheep of this country can sell all the expensive crap they buy and don’t appreciate in a desperate attempt to stay afloat and eat bread.

Fuck em. This country has become a global embarrassment and how it treats the nations hero’s by ignoring and mocking them then hiding behind mommys apron is but a microcosm of the symptoms of a dying nation.

Merry fucking Christmas shitstains. Now go fuck yourself.

  6. Not me. Even though I am from the AO I had my phone shut off thanks to the cocksuckin fuckheaded morons at the VA robbing me of half my money. Where us MK to make excuses for them and shill?

Fuck you VA, I hope you get canciferious aids for Christmas ya Goddamn halfwit fuckheaded peckerwood bottom of the barrel clown shoe wearing affirmative action loving garbage pails of puppy shit.

And fuck you too, MK. SHILL

I’ll score that one a 65% on the CorpsmanUp! scale of humorous ranting . . .

      1. Looks like I have some improvement to do. 65% is not sat and I am a no go at this station.

      2. Actually it was pretty good. Keep after it. Had to laugh out loud vice chuckle when I read it. Ranks right up there with Namnibor making me spit coffee all over an old keyboard . . .

Spent 3 hours pulling it apart, cleaning, reassembling after that incident.

  7. Sure, there is an insider who can be made to talk……………AND THEN……………………..

    1. A case for the FBI. Work backwards from the calling phone number to the list provider to where they got the list from. No need for the insider to say, “I did it.” Paper trail and bank records will say he/she did.

  8. It would appear this was localized so some with access sold the list of local patients to a list company.

  9. With all the negative information coming out about (Chinese run) “google” lately, it wouldn’t surprise me if they had something to do with veterans names being listed on internet!
As far as “scam calls” being received, I get an average of at least three or more a day! My phone even lets me know by saying “scam likely”! That gives me the opportunity to “ignore” the call!
Of course, anyone who gives anyone they aren’t sure of personal information is asking for trouble!
    That’s my opinion this morning!

  10. As for the “”suicide”” (wink/wink), NOTHING is as it appears and I’m going for negligence and an assisted shove out window from an employee feeling like they were disrespected…that’s what the laboratory test dogs at the VA in Ohio say to go with…

    1. The next step in VA institutionalization, induce suicide. The VA probably drove the vet to despair, VA-O-CIDE. But your probably right they just shoved him out the window.

  11. Place your bets now because I’m fairly confident when and IF this scam is identified, it will be plastered on this website ONLY that it was a VA employee doing this ALL ALONG…maybe a gaggle of the fucks.

However, it will ONLY be identified IF and ONLY IF a VA employee that happens to be a Veteran is a victim of this scam or an AFGE member, not a Veteran.
